Who am i?
I’m Ara Bird, a Danish multidisciplinary artist and multimedia designer with a love for illustration, character design, solving creative problems.
My work is primarily digital, from stylised character illustrations and turnarounds to graphic artwork built around vivid colour, strong contrast, expressive lighting, and texture. I also work traditionally, and I’ve recently become fascinated by game photography—treating virtual environments much like real-world photography and playing with composition, values, focus, and atmosphere.
I’m endlessly curious about the world around me, and that curiosity tends to find its way into my work. I draw inspiration from everything from mythology and human behaviour to physics. I like learning how things work, solving problems, and finding connections between ideas that might not seem related at first.
My favourite part of creating is often in the details: the hue-shift that suddenly makes an image work, the lighting that changes its mood, or the little bit of texture that makes everything feel finished. I especially love those final touches of colour, grain, texture, and atmosphere.
I’m currently studying Multimedia Design with a focus on games while developing my skills in composition, anatomy, and coding. I’m interested in where illustration, design, and games overlap, and I’m always looking for new things to learn and experiment with.
Whatever the project, I tend to fall a little bit in love with it. Even when I dislike the process, I can usually find something worth enjoying—whether it’s the first sketch, solving a hard problem, or simply the concept itself.
For me, that curiosity is where the fun starts.
